Archaeological site.
Details of Site Location: On Lot 31, Concession 4, on the hydro right-of-way at Birchmount Avenue north of Finch Avenue.
PDM: Borden # AkGt 10, easting 3,560, northing 5,160.
Boundary History: The original boundaries of the site are unknown and are probably impossible to determine at present.
Current Use of Property: Ontario Hydro right-of-way.
Historical Description: This was an aboriginal campsite of undetermined date and culture. It was damaged severely by grading for the right-of-way and may have been completely destroyed. It is entirely possible that other similar sites exist in the area, for aboriginal peoples of all nations and periods broke away from larger groups to establish family campsites for hunting purposes. No archaeological investigation has been made of this site, and no survey made to determine the existence of others.
Planning Implications: This area should be flagged for investigation archaeologically as there may be undisturbed portions of the site still in existence. Victor Konrad rated it 5/5 in importance and 5/5 threatened, but nothing was done about the site. Until investigation has been made, it is not possible to suggest any kind of commemoration, but the site should be fully protected until investigation can be made.
