Archaeological site.
Details of Site Location: On Massey Creek on the hydro right-of-way near the CNR line, Lot 25, Concession C, north of St. Clair Avenue, south of Eglinton Avenue, and east of Midland Avenue.
PDM: Borden # AkGt 15, easting 641,200, northing 4,843,100.
Boundary History: The site consists of from 1 to 3 acres as far as is known.
Current Use of Property: Hydro right-of-way.
Historical Description: The site was reported by Boyle in 1896, by Konrad in 1950 and 1973, and by Heinze in 1971. It was noted as a campsite of undetermined culture and period. Railway and hydro construction have destroyed a large part of the site, and another part has been sealed over by concrete. Despite the reports and subsequent development, no further investigation was made.
Relative Importance: Konrad ranked the importance of the site as 5/5, and 5/5 threatened.
Planning Implications: As with many archaeological sites known within the city, little was done to explore and retrieve information from it when it was intact. The resulting damage was incremental. It is not known how much of the site may be intact, and flagging the property for further investigation is recommended. Any marking of the site will have to wait for investigation.
